Plaintable collects nothing.

No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry of any kind. Nothing about you or your files is gathered, stored on a server, or sent anywhere — because there is nowhere for it to go.

Why there is nothing to send

Plaintable is sandboxed and ships without the network entitlement. macOS will not let it open a network connection at all, whatever it might try. Your data stays on your Mac because the app has no way to move it off.

What it writes, and where

Everything Plaintable writes stays on your own disk, under your own control:

Your file. Opened in place and never copied. Saving rewrites the file you opened, and nothing else.
The view file. Column widths, formats, formulas, filters and hidden rows go in yourfile.csv.md, beside the data — plain markdown you can read, edit and delete. See the view file syntax.
A recovery journal. Unsaved edits are journalled locally so a crash does not lose them, and the journal is discarded once the file is saved.
Settings and recent files, in the app's own sandbox container, as any Mac app keeps them.

Deleting the app removes its container. The view files beside your data are yours; delete them whenever you like and the CSV is untouched.

The App Store

Plaintable is sold through the Mac App Store, so Apple handles the purchase and the download under Apple's privacy policy. Apple shows me anonymous, aggregate sales and usage reports — how many copies sold in a country, for instance. Those reports say nothing about any individual, and I never see who you are.

If you write to me

The Support button at the foot of this page opens a form asking for a name, an email address and a message. Nothing is stored on this site: the message is handed straight to an email service, Postwing, which delivers it to my mailbox. Your IP address is counted in memory for ten minutes so the form cannot be used to send bulk mail; it is never written to disk and nothing about the request is logged.

I use your message and your email address to answer you and for nothing else — no list, no marketing, never passed on. Ask me to delete the correspondence and I will.

Changes

If a future version of Plaintable ever needs the network — it has no such plans — this page will say so before that version ships, and the app will ask first.
